Banded Shades celebrate an innovative design with alternating opaque and sheer fabric bands. Some people may also call these window treatments zebra shades as their look mimics the stripes of a zebra. Sometimes, they are called layered or dual shades, depending on the manufacturer. What’s unique about banded shades is that they allow you to control light and privacy with an exciting aesthetic. So many window treatments, when lowered completely, block the view. Banded shades allow light to enter the sheer bands while preserving your privacy.

Hunter Douglas Banded Shades are modern layered sheer and solid fabrics that are all for a view when you want one or privacy when you need it. We offer them in various textures, geometric patterns, and colors. Depending on your preference, you can opt for two different band heights: medium or large. The larger the band, the grander the view. The smaller the band, the more privacy you will have.

Banded Shades: Light Filtering vs Room Darkening
Light-filtering banded shades permit more light to enter your home while protecting your interior furnishings and floors from harsh UV rays. They are comprised of alternating sheers and light filter fabric bands so you can see out but still maintain your privacy. Light-filtering banded shades are best suited for rooms where you don’t need much privacy, such as your living room, dining room, kitchen, and home office, since they don’t completely block views into and out of your home.
Room-darkening banded shades are made from alternating sheers and opaque fabric bands. When the shades are entirely closed, your room will be completely dark, making them perfect for bathrooms, nurseries, bedrooms, and other rooms where you need solace and privacy. Consider using an outside mount to eliminate gaps between the shade and the window for even more light management.
